Abe's Farm: Kapampangan Cuisine and Nature (Magalang Pampanga)

Thanks to the Metro Angeles Food Tour 2014 (#MAFT2014), I got to visit Abe's Farm in the municipality of Magalang Pampanga.  

I've triedAbeat the SM Mega Fashion Hall before.  But being a nature lover, Abe's Farm scenic and native ambiance is more to my liking.

The restaurant is set up in a native kapampangan home which was originally built as LJC's founder Larry Cruz rest house.

Although the place is huge, the dining area is quite limited to grant the diners privacy and comfort.

The second floor has lofts and sofas were you can just chill out.

We chose to dine in this area to enjoy some fresh air and scenic view of the pool.

Food

Appetizers and Salads

Sinuteng Baby Squid (175 php)

The Sinuteng Baby Squid is sauteed baby squid in olive oil with garlic and chili.  This is a simple dish that relies on the quality of the tender baby squids.  It was executed well.

Prinitong Lumpia (125 php)

The Prinitong Lumpia is a crispy-coated, crunchy veggie-filled starter.

Paco Fern and Tomato Salad (155 php)

The Paco Fern and Tomato Salad is a bountiful salad with paco fern, raw onion rings, tomato strips and salted egg slices.

Main Courses

Pritong Baby Hito (270 php)

The Pritong Baby Hito is a butterflied baby catfish served with buro and mustasa leaves.  This is one of my favorite kapampangan dishes.  I just couldn't get enough of this.

Knockout Knuckles (595 php)

I've Knockout Knuckles before atCafe Adriatico.  It's as good as the first time I tried it.

Kare-Kare (595 php)

Their version of Kare-Kare is so rich and generous with ingredients too.  I couldn't stop indulging myself over this with their addicting bagoong.

Lola Ising's Adobo (395 php)

I've also tried the Lola Ising's AdoboatCafe Adriatico.  This adobo belly chunk is so tender and tasty!  Like I said before, one of the best adobo out there.

Betute (290 php)

I love frog dishes since childhood so I was not as intimidated as my companions with it.  The Betute was savory, tender and clean tasting.  The pickled vegetable served with it is the perfect accompaniment to cleanse the palate too.

Vegetables

Gising Gising (240 php)

It's actually my first time to try the Gising Gising.  I enjoyed the crunchy small cuts of kangkong stem with shrimps and chili swimming in a pool of coconut milk.

Rice, Noodles and Side Dishes

Bamboo Rice (250 php)

Everyone was impressed with the Bamboo Rice.  Aside from being steamed in bamboo shell, it was also sumptuous and rich in flavor.  The mountain rice is topped with wood ear mushrooms, shrimps and bamboo shoots.


Desserts

Sikreto ni Maria (165 php)

The Sikreto ni Maria is probably the most extravagant version of the classic suman at mangga.  The suman and mango slices are covered by their amazing coconut milk and carabao milk ice cream. 

Turon Saging with Langka at Ube (80 php)

The Turon Saging with Langka at Ube is good but I prefer the former.


Drinks

Mango Shake

The staffs highly recommends the Tamarind Shake made from fresh tamarind.  This is indeed a one of a kind beverage that's a must try!


Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
Abe's Farm is a must visit for kapampangan cuisine experience that's in line with nature.  The native and homey ambiance is one of a kind.  Tourists and balikbayans will enjoy this place even more.
