Macao Imperial Tea: Instagrammable Couple Teas and Rainbow Colored Sodas (Now Open in Banawe)

I first spotted Macao Imperial Tea being constructed when we dined at Shabu Shabu Ichiban in Circuit Makati.  To my surprise, they have another one in Banawe (right in front of Eng Ho) and I was so fortunate to be invited to its grand opening!

macao imperial tea banawe
Yey! Finally, Macao Imperial Tea with over 200 branches in Macau, Vietnam, China (Shandong, Beijing, Inner Mongolia, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Hainan, Guangdong, Fujian, Juangxi, Hunan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Anhui and Guizhou) United States and Canada is finally here in the Philippines.

macao imperial tea banawe
The store in Banawe is so spacious with an al fresco and cozy indoor area.

macao imperial tea banawe
I just love its interiors.

macao imperial tea banawe
I highly recommend this as a student study area and work area.  It is so comfortable, private and more importantly, there are power outlets for each table.

Food
macao imperial tea banawe
I initially thought that they were all about drinks.  But, turns out that they have food too.

apple pie
I heard the Apple Pie and Chocolate Lava Cake is good.  But, I didn't get to try those.

Chocolate Dome Cake (120 php), Marshmallow Chocolate Cake (120 php), Kitten Milk Tea (130 php) and Walnut Black Sesame Fresh Milk (160 php)

Instead, this is what I had.

chocolate dome cake
Chocolate Dome Cake (120 php)

The Chocolate Dome Cake is really good!  It was rich and bitter sweet.

marshmallow chocolate cake
Marshmallow Chocolate Cake (120 php)

I really had no idea what I was thinking by ordering two kinds of chocolate cakes.  But, it made me realize that I liked the Chocolate Dome Cake better because it was richer.  But, the Marshmallow Chocolate Cake offered smooth mallow icing and some chocolate chunks which made it a bit interesting and worth a try.

Drinks

Special Drinks (served hot)
Kitten Milk Tea (130 php)
The special feature of the Kitten Milk Tea is that it comes with a cute kitten paw marshmallow that melts and expands and then vanishes.  I didn't get to take a photo of the expanded version because by some unfortunate circumstance, it got knocked off...  But, I'll probably get another one of this on my next visit just to show you so watch out for it on Instagram. ;)

I also loved the Walnut Black Sesame Fresh Milk.  It comes with red beans as toppings.  I will probably order that again when I'm not craving for caffeine.

Tip: One of the perks in ordering their hot drinks is that its served in a cute royal kitten cup. ;)

Special Drinks (served cold)
for you and for me
For You (195 php) and For Me (195 php)
A must buy on your first visit to Macao Imperial Tea is the For You - Caramel Macchiato and For Me - strawberry milkshake (reminds you of a song right?).  These are so cute!  I was surprised that it is actually made of glass.  For the price, its quite a steal.  This is a perfect little surprise for your loved one/s.

macao imperial tea soda
Midsummer Soda (145 php), Over the Raibow Soda (160 php), Blue Curacao Soda (145 php), Cherry Blossom Soda (145 php), Green Apple Soda (145 php)
Overheard from the When In Manila team from the next table, "you guys must order and take a photo of their sodas!  That's the highlight".   So I was intrigued and ordered the Over the Rainbow Soda.  It is served in a plastic tumbler.  It's not as cool as the bear-shaped glass tumbler of For You and For Me but the rainbow color makes you want to try it right?  According to owner Fredley, this is best consumed within 2 hours from purchase.  I tried shaking my technicolor-ed Over the Rainbow Soda and it turned light pink.   I was a pretty good sweet drink.  But, I think I prefer the special drinks I've tried.

macao imperial tea menu
I feel that I barely scratched the surface in trying out Macao Imperial Tea's drinks because they have so many options.  I have to come back and try their Chestnut Cream, Cream Cheese, Tea, Milk Tea, Red Bean, Yakult, Coffee and Mpresso series next.

Making Your Mornings Healthy with these Quaker Overnight Breakfast Club Overnight Oat Recipes

A few weeks ago, I was invited over to Le Petit Souffle for a brunch with Quaker Oats Philippines.

le petit souffle
My family is quite loyal to the Quaker brand.  In fact, every Sunday morning is our oatmeal morning day.  We cook our old fashioned oats and add some powdered milk and honey before serving.  For the past decades, that is the only way I know how to eat oatmeal.

Joyce Pring, Wil Dasovich, Patti Grandidge and Lauren Young
But to my surprise, there's an easier, more convenient and fun way with overnight oats.

quaker
I have to agree with Quaker's Marketing Manager for Nutrition Anne Remulla-Canda that "A lot of people actually think that oatmeal is hard to prepare..."

But with my discover of overnight oats, as shared by Quaker’s own Quaker Overnight Breakfast Club led by Joyce Pring, Wil Dasovich, Patti Grandidge and Lauren Young, I can now have oatmeal more often during the week.

Ramen Nagi: Now Open In Signa Residences Valero Makati

It's been more than three years since I first tried Ramen Nagi.  That was the time when the Ramen Craze just landed in the Philippines.  Having more ramen houses with multiple branches has proven that ramen is here to stay and has become part of our food culture.

ramen nagi
Good news for Makati peeps because Ramen Nagi has just opened its very own stand alone store (not a store mall) in Signa Residences Valero Makati that is open until 12 midnight.

This is the very first Ramen Nagi that has a ramen bar style.  It's just like it's neighbor Mendokoro Ramenbabut with a another bar type on the side and casual table set up on the outside.

Food

Ramen
Just for the opening of this new branch, Ramen Nagi offered the Nagi Jiro as a Limited King (only 100 bowls) for this branch alone.

Nagi Jiro (490 php) plus add ons
I was surprised with the Nagi Jiro!

Just look at the huge Jiro Chashu chunks!  I almost couldn't finish this because it has a heapload of beansprouts and it wasn't my only order.  But, it was so good that I just had to.  I advise you to finish it as fast as you can though because the chashu gets tougher to bite as it gets cold and dry.

green king
Green King (Midori) (410 php)
After 3 years, I'm happy to report that the serving size, price and consistency of the Green King (Midori) is exactly the same. =)

Side Dishes

perilla gyoza
Perilla Gyoza (240 php)
They didn't have any side dishes before so I got a bit excited in ordering, not expecting the huge Jiro NagiRamen Nagi also launched their new flavored side dishes.  So for their Gyoza there is Perilla, Garlicand CheeseI loved the Perilla Gyoza!

matcha chicken karaage
Matcha Chicken Karaage (290 php)
The Chicken Karaage also comes in three flavors: 7 Spice (300 php),  Curry (270 php) and Matcha (290 php).  The Matcha is bitter and bold.  Try if you think you can appreciate its authentic Japanesetaste.  I liked it but my mom found it to be quite bitterish to her dismay.

katsu roll
Pork Katsu Roll (295 php)
Surprsingly even with the new flavored Gyoza and Chicken Karaage, everyone still loved the Pork Katsu Roll the most.

So there you have it.  Now you have Ramen Nagi Signa Residence (found at the Ground Level, Signa Designer Residences, V.A. Rufino St. corner Valero St., Salcedo Village) to consider when you have those late night ramen cravings!  And, they have great side dishes so you can tag along friends who may not have the same craving as you do.   Ramen is also my ideal break time meal whether for lunch or dinner or in between since it is served and eaten quickly.

Rural Kitchen of Liliw Laguna: Unique Filipino Dinner (Makati)

There are only a handful moments in my life, other than my birthdays, that are worth celebrating with the family.  This gathering is to mark my milestone on earning my "Atty." (Yes, I' really claiming it!).  For such a unique occasion, it was only befitting that I also pick the most unique Filipino restaurant on my want to try list: Rural Kitchen of Liliw Laguna.

rural kitchen of liliw laguna
Little did I know that Rural Kitchen of Liliw Laguna has two branches (both within Makati) so there was some members of the family who got mixed up.

rural kitchen of liliw laguna
My reservation was at the pioneer branch in HRC Centre in Rada Street but they also have one in 6060 Palma Street corner Osias Street, Barangay Poblacion, Makati.  We all had a difficult time locating this along Rada Street because it was not visible from the street view.  Lucky for us, my cousin and little sister arrived early and located it for us.  They advised us to look for China Bank and 7-11 instead a this was located just beside 7-11.  Their signage is so small without any lights so its impossible to see at night.

Food
bonete bread
Complimentary Bonete Bread
While waiting for our orders, we were served their Complimentary Bonete Bread.  It comes with three dips.  The family loved the one with kamias.

Appetizer
kamias
Ukoy (195 php)

The family grew up in Ilocos Sur when Ukoy is quite prominent so every one was curious to see Chef Justin Sarabia's version.  We initially just ordered for sharing.  But since we liked the Ukoy so much, we just had to order more.  It was not just crunchy but crisp to perfection with less grease.

chicken lumpia
Chicken Lumpia (195 php)

Another interesting surprise though it looks ordinary is the Chicken Lumpia

shitake bun
Shitake Bun (260 php)
Mushroom lovers like me will surely enjoy the Shitake Bun.  It was such a great discovery that queso de bola could go well with shitake.  The only drawback for this is the price.  For such a small bun, it already costs 130 php.

crispy squid
Crispy Squid (285 php)
The Crispy Squid offers a great combination of crisp and chewiness that we loved to the point of slight addiction.

Salad
pako salad
Pako Salad (180 php)

The oldies where quite excited to find the Pako Salad on the menu.  I didn't quite expect that it would impress both young and old

Beef
beef in coconut
Beef in Coconut (480 php)
If there was one item that didn't impress us, it would be the Beef in Coconut.  We were expecting this to taste a bit sweet because of the coconut milk.  Yet, it tasted sour so we even doubted if  it was spoiled.  However, we didn't get a stomach ache the following day so I guess it was not.

Seafood
Adobong Pusit (320 php)

The Adobong Pusit is deliciously tasty making it perfect with rice.  It was very tender that the oldies enjoyed munching on it too.

lapu lapu in mango
Lapu Lapu with Mango (580 php)
If I could recommend one dish at Rural Kitchen that is a must order, it would be the Lapu Lapu with Mango.  Taste-wise, portion-wise and price-wise, I would say this has exceeded our expectations.

Other
ox tail kare kare
Ox Tail Kare Kare (580 php)
Personally, I found their blend of Ox Tail Kare Kare to be a bit sweet but the family seemed to have enjoyed it.  We all just felt, there could have been more ox tail for its price.

We also ordered the Dinuguan (280 php) which was made from carabao's blood instead of pig's blood.  Unfortunately, we all (except my one cousin) failed to appreciate this dish because of the undeniably gamer and weird smell and flavor.  But, in fairness, my one cousin liked it and he finished the plateful all by himself.

kalderetang kambing
Kalderetang Kambing (280 php)
The Kalderetang Kambing was really good.  It has a lot of bones but that's quite usual for such a dish.

Lamb Kaldereta (580 php)
We all liked the Lamb Kaldereta.  The lamb was so tender and clean tasting.  I highly recommend this as well!

Vegetables

Kuwalong Talong (180 php)
This is our first time to try an eggplant dish cooked like the Kuwalong Talong.  It was amazingly awesome!  Do you know where this dish originated from?

Noodles

Pancit Lucban (190 php)
My aunt was missing pancit lucban so she ordered one.  She was surprised that the Pancit Lucban looked something like this.  Well, their twist was good especially with the sweet and savory pork sausages.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
We Tsinoy Foodies recommend trying out Rural Kitchen of Liliw Laguna.  I don't think there is any other place in the Metro just like it.  Although the portion could be more generous, the elegant ambiance and unique menu with their own twist makes up for its higher than average pricing.

Soi is Now Open at SM City Manila

Last month, I had the honor to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting ofSoi at SM City Manila.

Since SM City Manila is about a 5-minute ride from my place, I am happy that there's now a Thai restaurant there.

Unlike the Soi I visited in Glorietta, this one is quite narrow but it doesn't feel cramped at all because of the beautiful interiors.

I liked that they a bar and open kitchen so you can opt to see how your food and drinks are being prepared.

Because of this, I discovered that they use food coloring on their drinks like their Pandan Juice that I loved.  It somehow counters the healthy benefits of pandan for me.  My companion ordered one without the coloring so I guess that works too.

They even showcase the Thai condiments that they use.

Food

Fried Noodles
Complimentary Pad Thai
For the first 100 customers, we got a Complimentary Pad Thai.

Vegetable in Yellow Curry
Soi also introduced new dishes...

Specialties
Lemongrass Chicken
while maintaining old favorites like my favorite Lemongrass Chicken.

Chicken Leg Barbecue

Fried Banana with Vanilla Ice Cream (128 php)

Thai Halo Halo
I also loved their Thai Halo Halo.

I would definitely come back at Soi when in SM Manila.  Their offer a lot of Thai selections for an affordable price.

Mio Gelati: Delightfully Smooth Gelato Giveaway! (Century Mall Makati)

When I encountered Mio Gelati in Century MallMakati, I knew the brand was familiar.  I thought I first encounter it at food markets with its ice cream truck.  But apparently, my blog entry is more accurate than my memory.

mio gelati century mall
To my surprise, the first time I've encountered Mio Gelati was already 5 years ago when they had a stand alone store in Greenhills and even sold mochi filled with gelato.

mio gelati century mall
I remember loving those mochi but I didn't recall it having a delightfully smooth gelato consistency.  I'm so glad I got to try it once again.  You can actually sample the flavors prior to ordering.  The white signs indicate meant that the flavors are premium while the transparent signs meant that the flavors are regular.

Of course, choosing the flavors depends on your preference.  But, what I can vouch for is that each one is rich in flavor and they all had creamy and smooth consistency.

My top 3 flavors are:
1. Pistachio
2. Kitkat Green Tea
3. Avocado Milk
(Ironically, all of them are color green. =D)

The current best-sellers are:
1. Mango Cream Pie
2. Blueberry Cheesecake
3. Willy Wonka

I say current because they change flavors every 3 months.

mio gelati century mall
Their pricing is very reasonable.  If you choose the big cup, you can have two flavors in one cup.

You can find Mio Gelati daily at their store at Century Mall.  They also have pop up stalls at Shangrila Mall, SM North, Trinoma, Glorietta (Plains & Prints) and Mio Gelati Truck at Eastwood.  The pop up stalls are not permanent so check out their fan page for regular updates.

Mister Donut: Unbox the Fun Surprises for Metro Manila

How many time have we encountered someone carrying a box of Mister Donut?  I bet countless right?  Being conveniently placed at transport terminals and town mall branches, Mister Donut is one of the easiest "pasalubong" that we can buy for our loved ones.

mister donut unbox the fun
To thank us loyal customers for embracing Mister Donut as part of our pasalubong, snacking and even meal culture for decades, Mister Donut now unboxes a new kind of fun as it comes up with surprise freebies and interesting products.

p2p ayala to trinoma
During a usual weekday workday, I have witnessed the Mister Donut team surprise me and my fellow P2P bus mates from Ayala to Trinoma with free Mister Donut Ube Cake, bottled water and a voucher for a freebie donut.

p2p bus

It made the hour-long traffic seemed less and more fun!  My bus seat-mate who has been riding the P2P bus everyday since it was first implemented said that he was quite thrilled with the surprise.  I'm told that the surprises will continue!

mister donut cafe trinoma
Since I'm in Trinoma, might as well drop by Mister Donut Cafe.

mister donut cafe trinoma
I have to admit, I'm quite partial to my classic favorite Glazed Pon De Ring (29 php) and new favorite Ube Cake (18 php).

mister donut cafe trinoma
But seeing their new Ube Collection (I've always been an Ube lover) enticed me to try their new variants which I haven't tried before.

mister donut philippines
From their Ube Collection, I tried the Ube Keso Twist (this was not rich enough for me) and Ube Smidget.  I skipped the Ube Cream Sprinkles because I didn't like the candy sprinkles.  I wanted to try the Ube Bavarian but I guess it was sold out as my visit was near their closing hour.  I didn't like the new Ube Collection as I am still more happy with their Ube Cake in terms of the rich flavor and deliciously moist and soft cake-like consistency.

I also tried the Cookies and Cream Old Fashioned Donuts (39 php) and loved it!  I now prefer that over my former third favorite - Glazed Donuts.

The family has three Mister Donut favorites: Glazed Donuts, Classic Bavarian and Minions Donuts. Since there Glazed Donuts and Minions Donuts were not available, I got them the All Time Favorite 15 (250 php).

mister donut brewzees wicked puff
Brownie Frappe with Belgian Chocolate Wicked Puffs (99 php)
I was intrigued by their new Miser Donut Brewzees.  I've always been a fan of frappes so when I saw they had a combo for Brownie Frappe with Belgian Chocolate Wicked Puffs at a steal price of only 99 php, I just had to order one!  I enjoyed the Belgian Chocolate Wicked Puffs but felt that it was more suitable with a hot drink since it was also freshly fried and warm when served.  I will definitely pair it with their hot Flavored Brews next time.  That's priced even cheaper at only 79 php!

croissantwich
Japanese Spicy Tuna Croissantwich ala Carte (90 php)
The great thing about Mister Donut Cafe is that they serve meals too!  I saw the other table devouring the croissantwich with glee so I got one for me to try.  I didn't expect it to be crunchy as if toasted so I failed to appreciate it.  I think I would have enjoyed this as a snack to be dipped in hot brewed coffee.

baked cheesy tomato penne
Baked Cheesy Tomato Penne (95 php)
The
Baked Cheesy Tomato Penne had the typical pinoy style spaghetti sauce blend of a delectable mix of sweet and tangy.  But, I found this better because the al dente cooked penne absorbed the flavor more.

I really appreciate the fun surprise. Check out the Mister Donut branches and maybe you can unbox some fun with their surprises too!

Salu The Filipino Restaurant: Happy First Anniversary (Sacred Heart Quezon City)

Last month, I was invited to Salu The Filipino Restaurant's First Year Anniversary and Media Thanks Giving Party.

salu the filipino restaurant
I can't believe that there's a Filipino restaurant that went under my foodie radar so I just had to check it out for myself.   I was expecting a small humble restaurant  but to my surprise it is a huge dining place in a heritage-like house with its own parking space.  It is easy to find via Google maps or waze.  It is located at 26 Scout Torillo Cor. Scout Fernandez, Brgy. Sacred Heart Quezon City.

salu the filipino restaurant
Even more surprise is that it is owned by celebrity couple Romnick Sarmenta and Harlene Buatista.  The couple has been very engaged with the direction of their restaurant in terms of addition new dishes which they learned from their travels, implementing new promos and activities for their guests such as the Luto ni Nanay - where guests can learn and cook their dishes, doing socio-civic activities such as donating 300 packed lunches to Hashtag Philippines through Antoneitte Taus and representing ARMM in Madrid Fusion.

Since the restaurant is family oriented, many parents would surely appreciate that they dedicate a generous amount of space for day care.

Food
I can't think of any place that have as extensive menu on the three parts of the Philippine archipelago as Salu.  I found the concept to be superb!  If only they could execute it well, this can be a huge hit right?  So let's see...

The buffet didn't have any labels.  But I really liked everything that was served especially this one with kamias.

Mindanao
Beef Kulma
This is my first time to try the Beef Kulma and I am an instant fan!  The rich spiced and savory flavor is perfect with any staple.  The beef chunks are so tender, I barely needed to chew.

Salu Sinugba

Pampagana
Even the appetizers: Crispy Crablets, Crispy Shrimp and Ukoy was delicious.

Save room for dessert because their desserts are uniquely delicious!  I tried the Taho Cheesecake and the  Durian Cake.

Congratulations Salu on your first anniversary!  I definitely hope to be back to let my mom experience the Luto ni Nanay.  I'm also curious to see the actual portions of their dishes so till next visit.

The Workshop Bespoke Bakery Cake Pairing with Yardstick Coffee

I've long been a fan of Chef Miko Aspiras.   I just couldn't believe it when he messaged me on instagram inviting me to launch of his new cakes with Yardstick's coffee at The Workshop Bespoke Bakery located inside Le Petite Souffle in SM Mega Fashion Hall.

the workshop bespoke bakery
This is my first time to visit both Le Petite Souffle and The Workshop so I was amazed by the interiors.

The display was awesome.
Who wouldn't be enticed to buy upon seeing these right?

Everyone was gathered for the highlight of the event...

When a young genius like Chef Miko Aspiras demonstrates about his pastry, he doesn't need a spotlight to draw the crowds attention.

Everyone was eager to see his creation.  Isn't his 17 Layer Chocolate Cake drool worthy?  The perfect match for this is Yardstick's Non-Dairy Mocha.  Believe me, the mocha is so smooth that you can't tell that it doesn't have dairy on it.

I really loved the light and subtle flavors of pistachio of the Pistachio Creme Roulade.  I knew the family would appreciate it so I  brought them home some one time.  Indeed, they had so much praise for it.  Chef Miko suggests this cake to be paired with Yardstick's Madagascar Vanilla Iced Latte.

The crowd favorite is the Basque Burnt Cheesecake.  This is indeed so good.  This is best when freshly baked or shall I say burnt?  It doesn't taste bitter and burnt at all.  The caramel isn't too sweet either.  The best coffee drink for this is Yardstick's Burnt Butterscotch Iced Latte with Salted Cream. It sounds intriguing right?  I want to try that on my next visit too.

So here they are: 17 Layer Chocolate Cake, Pistachio Creme Roulade and
Basque Burnt Cheesecake.  Try them all out.  I bet you'll find one (if not all) to be a total indulgence.

Thank you so much Chef Miko for inviting me to try this amazing desserts!

There are only a few places in Metro Manilaespecially in Makati City that serves Indian food and Vegan food alike so I was quite excited to discover Bollywood Treats at the lower ground floor of Century Mall

bollywood treats
Unlike other stalls, it offers a very homey and simple vibe.

bollywood treats
I think that's nice because when I'm taking a break from work, the best ambiance I'd wish for is one that is close to home.

Food

Samosa (Vegan) (2 for 70 php)
Not only does Bollywood Treats offer Vegan selections, they offer them at a very low price!  Their Samosa is only 35 php per piece when you order by twos.

Chicken Roti Roll (Shawarma) (60 php)
I didn't know that Indian Cuisine has its version of shawarma.  The Chicken Roti Roll is best eaten when hot and fresh.

Non-Vegan Sample Platter (Single for 195 php)

If you want to try most items on their menu, go for their Sample Platter.  There are two versions of this: Vegan and Non-Vegan.  I chose the Non-Vegan which comes with Chicken Curry, BBQ Chicken, Beef Kebab or Beef Curry, Keema and Rice.

Falafel Yo!: Legit Israeli Falafel & Salad Bar is Now Open (Greenbelt 3 Makati)

$

There are only a few places in the Metro where you can grab some falafel.  So I was so excited for the grand opening of Falafel Yo! Israeli Falafel & Salad Bar.

falafel yo
Falafel Yo is located at the 4th floor of Greenbelt 3 making it the ideal pre-movie meal or movie snack.

falafel yo
Falafel Yo! aims to preserve traditional recipes passed down from generation to generation.

falafel yo
After paying at the counter, you will be given this thing so you can be buzzed when you're falafel is ready.

falafel yo
Tip:If you're very picky with ingredients, kindly advise the cashier to buzz you before preparation so you can instruct them on what to put in.

falafel yo
Don't worry about the Roasted Green Chili, they put it on top so you can just remove it.

falafel yo
So here's my falafel ready to go.

falafel yo
If you don't go to the counter before preparation, you're falafel will be waiting for you by the counter like this.  I actually ordered two: 1 Falafel and 1 Falafelito.

falafel yo
Falafel Yo! (159 php)
Falafel Yo! made me dig deeper into falafels because this is the first time I've heard of Israelifalafel.  Sure, I've had falafels before but I had no idea that each country in the Middle East has its own take on how to cook it just like theshawarma.  In fact, it has been considered as the national dish of Egypt, Palestine and Israel.

falafel yo
Falafelito (99 php) and Falafel Yo! (159 php)

Fun Fact: Did you know that in Egypt, they use Fava Beans on their falafel?  On the other hand, most middle eastern countries like Israel use Chickpeas.

The Falafelito only has 3 falafel balls and occupies only half of the pita bread.  You can have this for snack.  While with the Falafel Yo! has 6 falafel balls.  This is a meal in itself.

I want to try the Falafel Beast with beef next time.

falafel yo
Falafel Yo! (159 php)

Wow to my surprise, the Falafel Yo! is really heavy!  But, it was so good I couldn't help but finish it to the last bite.  What I like about their sandwiches is that they have Fried Eggplant, Homemade Hummus, Sumac (pickled onions), Roasted Green Chillies, Sour Cabbage, Coleslaw Salad, Chopped Salad and Tunisian Salad.  And, they also have a 2 kinds of special dips: amba - sour yellow sauce, made of mango, cumin and tumeric and tahini - mix of sesame seeds, coriander and parsley.

Beverages
lemongrass juice
Lemongrass Juice Large (105 php)
I found the Lemongrass Juice to be a bit too sweet for me.  The sweetness together with the lemongrass bits made it a bit difficult to gulp down the throat.  Perhaps, more ice would have improved the balance of this drink.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
I don't think you can grab a superb Israelifalafel other than Falafel Yo!  I'll definitely come back for more.  And I'm sure that if  I'm watching a movie at Greenbelt 3, this will be my choice for meal or snack.  Can't wait for their other branches!

A bit of a guilt food is the Braised Pork Belly.  But, some may forget about that and indulge in its fatty goodness.

Coffee
Needless to say, a must order in every visit to Stockwell Café + Lounge is a cup of coffee.

They have really skilled and well-trained baristas who can make you the best cup and make you smile with their amazing latte art.

Guatamela Cold Brew (120 php)
I highly suggest that you go beyond the ordinary coffee blends and try their Alternative Brews such as Cold Brew and Cold Drip. Since they have Single Origin Coffee Beans, you can describe what you are looking for in a coffee and their barista can help you figure out what coffee beans to use.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
As a coffee affecionado, I was really impressed with Stockwell Café + Lounge's coffee selections.  On top of that, I also loved their Matcha and Bulgogi Rice.  Did I mention that the interiors is rustic and comfortable too?  Surely, a possible visit is at hand.  If only this isn't far from home, I'd come here often.

Kushikatsu Daruma: Double the Fun WITHOUT Double Dipping (Uptown Place Mall Taguig)

The family has been looking forward to trying out Kushikatsu Daruma.  We've tried kushikatsus from local Japanese restaurants and we're epicurious how those hold in comparison with Kushikatsu Daruma that originates fromOsaka Japan.

Kushikatsu Daruma's interiors really stand out even from the outside.

Perhaps this branch is even more extravagant than the one in Osaka

The staffs are very attentive and eager to suggest what to order.

Food

So what sets Kushikatsu Daruma's Kushikatsu's from the rest?

kushikatsu

We had so much fun and kept on ordering for more sticks.  The quality

After seeing our bill, we realized we should be more keen on our budget.  And, again remember not to double dip!

So what did we like about their kushikatsu?
1. Variety
2. Consistent quality
3. Delicious sauce

What did we not like?
1. It's difficult to keep track of our expenses as we kept on ordering for more sticks.  And, some of the sticks were really expensive.
2. We couldn't get comfortable with the one dipping container for all.
3. It was a bit oily.
4. Quality isn't the best I've tried.  For the beef roll, I actually liked the one in Shabu-Shabu Ichiban more.

Food Club: Dimsum, Seafood and More Buffet Choices (Blue Bay Walk Pasay City)

Whenever my relatives celebrate birthdays, more often than not, we are bound to try a buffet place.  This time they invited us to try Food Club.

food club
Food Club is located at Blue Bay Walk.  The family likes it there because there's a lot of parking space.

food club
I don't think you'll ever need reservations at Food Club.  I think they have more space than it can ever be occupied.

Food

Cooked Food

In terms of buffet choices, they have a lot!  There are many cooked dishes of international cuisine.  They also have dedicated stations for other food types.

I bet you can't try all their selection in one seating.

Salad Station

Kiddie Station
There's also a kiddie station with kid friendly choices like Hotdog on a Stick and Marbles Potatoes.

Sushi and Sashimi Station
sushi
We were happy that they have Salmon Sashimi.  But as you can see,  it is not so fresh.

Miso Ramen Station
There's a Miso Ramen Station.  I like that it is served in small miso bowls so it isn't very heavy.

Grilling Station
There's also a Grilling Station with marinated meats, skewers and fresh seafood.

Fried Station
food club buffet
Forget about the other fried items, everyone kept coming back for the Shrimp Tempura.  Well, it was nothing special.  But, it runs out fast and they refill it quick too.

Carving Station
food club buffet
For the price, I must say this item is a steal or perhaps... you get what you pay for.

Chinese Station

To our elderly Tsinoys delight, the most expansive cuisine at Food Club is Chinese Cuisine.   They even offer 2-way Duck which I indulged on.

Dimsum Station
xiao long bao
Xiao Long Bao
In fairness to them, they are the only buffet I've been to that offers Xiao Long Bao as one of their special dishes.  But, it is the saddest one I've tried.  Can you tell just by the looks?

There are more dimsum choices... all of which could use some improvement.

Tokyo Ice Cafe: Lunch and Chill Out at this Cute and Cozy Japanese Cafe (SM Mall of Asia Pasay City)

It was a Saturdate at SM Mall of Asia.  As expected, most restaurants in MOA were packed and busy.  As we were looking for a cool place to eat, I suggested that we try the newly opened JapaneseCafe Tokyo Ice Cafe.

tokyo ice cafe
I actually had some difficulty locating this place because most sites indicated that it is found in Seaside Boulevard when it is actually at the SM MOA Entertainment Hall Galleon Wing.  Being new, it was also not found in any of the mall directories.

tokyo ice cafe
When we finally found it, I was quite happy because it was as cute as the photos I've seen online.

tokyo ice cafe
It was also cozy, comfortable and quiet as it was almost empty.

tokyo ice cafe
It appeared to be clean and relaxing.

And, the air conditioning is cooler than the mall in general.

Aside from the dining area, I just have to mention that they have the most advanced technology restroom I've ever encountered.

Every inch of the place is Instagrammable.

Food
mentaiko cream set
Mentaiko Cream Set (399 php)
I ordered the Mentaiko Cream Set because the Genovese Set was not available during our visit.  It was highly recommend by our server as the best seller.  For the price, the set is quite reasonable.  It is a complete meal with fried egg, Mentaiko Cream Pasta, Fresh Salad, Chicken Teriyaki, Potato or Macaroni Salad, Ningyo-yaki Bear and Japanese Cheesecake.

The Mentaiko Cream Pasta is a very flavorful pasta that surely matches most Filipino taste preference.  What I loved more though is the Chicken Teriyaki.  I have to commend their idea of having extra teriyaki sauce served on the side so you can decide on how much of the sauce you want. I liked that the sauce is perfectly blended to be lighted salted and a bit sweet.  I also enjoyed how tender and juicy the chicken meat was.  The Potato Salad is also comfortingly creamy.

ningoyaki bear
Ningyo-yaki Bear and Japanese Cheesecake
But what really got me all giddy and excited is the Ningyo-yaki Bear.  It was so cute!  And, it was also fun to eat since it was soft and not too dry.  The Japanese Cheesecake a bit more dense and creamy than other Japanese Cheesecakes I tried such as Uncle Tetsu's.  But, it had its own distinguishable glamour.  It was so rich that the cupcake-sized serving was already fulfilling for me.

Although I wanted to try their kakigori, this set made me too full to order more from their menu.

Sides Ala Carte
sweet and sour pork
Sweet & Sour Pork (200 php)
My date ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork.  He thought he could order it with rice but to our surprise, they don't serve rice at all.  I was laughing because he was forced to be healthy!  We both found the Sweet & Sour Pork to be much on the sweet side.  For a Side Dish, I think this is a huge serving. But for the quality, I'd say that the sets are more reasonably priced than this.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
If you're looking for a cute and cozy place to hang out at SM MOA, Tokyo Ice Cafe is one of our top picks.  This is one of the best interiored cafes we've been to.  We chilled here for a long time after we got tired from taking a stroll at the mall.  Since ambiance is our top consideration for visiting this place, we'd probably try their specialty Kakigori and Drinks on our next visit since we don't feel that they specialize in serving meals.  We don't recommend dining here if you're in a hurry since the service is quite slow but do note that they are still in the soft opening phase during our  visit.  We also hope they have Free WiFi soon.
