I'm always on the look out for share-worthy food finds. And, its usually the budget-friendly places where I can experience satisfying cheap eats that I appreciate the most. One of latest discovery that fits that criteria is Jack's Joint.

Jack's Joint is located along Jose Abad Santos in front of Philippine Cultural Highschool. Thus, it is just walking distance from 168 and 999 mall.

Seeing the black and white motif and the font mislead me into thinking that it is an English pub. But, it turned out to be a middle eastern joint where you can smell and watch as the meats are being grilled.

Like in sports bar, there is a TV turned on. And, there's free WiFi too. Being located near schools, residents and commercial areas, the diners are a mix bunch.

Burgers

♥ Burger Half Pounder + Cheese (120 php + 15 php)

The Burger Half Pounder + Cheese is a steal deal for its price. The burger patty looks whole but upon biting into it, we noticed that it is actually 3-layers binded into one. Taste-wise it was pretty good.

Chicken Steak (130 php)

The Chicken Steak is tender but a bit dry. It was spiced just right.

Chicken Pirzola (130 php)

This is my first time to encounter a pirzola dish so I have no clue on what it should taste like. The Chicken Pirzola is a fragrant dish with a sweet and savory marinate like that of a barbecue.

Kebab

♥ Special Kebab (180 php)

The Special Kebab is well-spiced, tender and succulent. I loved this!

Shawarma

Shawarma Rice (95 php)

The Shawarma has a sweet blend with a light spiciness. Since it is thinly sliced, it is very easy to chew.

Pizza

♥ Shawarma Pizza (285 php)

The Shawarma Pizza is one of their most interesting offerings. On it own, I didn't find it appealing. But, their yogurt sauce and hot sauce does wonders for this dish.

4 Cheese Pizza (280 php)

The 4 Cheese Pizza is good enough considering the very affordable price.

Shakes

The Yogurt is sweet and tangy. This is a great palate refresher.

As there are hardly any Middle Eastern places in the area, I'm sure many will be happy to pay a visit at Jack's Joint Burger Shawarma Pizza. The price is so reasonable that even students can come here frequently.

Last week, I had an opportunity that I just couldn't pass up. I mean who would ever be crazy enough to decline the chance to get fat at Fat Restaurant?

Fat Restaurant is a new comfort food place the replaced Izumi

The place is minimalist which I really liked because it's clean and bright.

I got to meet Chef MiKel Zaguirre of the famous Locavore. He's a really cool guy who shared the stories behind the dishes he served to us. (Most of them were accidental) He also shared the book that inspired the restaurant concept called Fatby Jennifer McLagan. Now, while my entire family may disagree, I am a big fan of fats. And, I'm a firm believer that good fats should be included in our daily diet.

Fat Snacks

Bar Mix (290 php)

I'm guilty for being stereotypical that snacks are usually less impressive than the main course. But, fir the very first time I was proven wrong. TheBar Mixis a glorified popcorn snack. Yep, I'm sorry tosay that Chicago Popcorn, Garett and Chef Tony's is no match for this champ.

Bar Mix (290 php)

The pure in of salted caramel and melted butter with a squirt of lemon is pure genius. The 12 spiced nuts mixed in to make it even better.

Pork Ear En Croute (370 php)

Pork Ear En Croute is the dish you should never forget to order at Fat Restaurant. I'm not a pork pig ear fan... (Yes, call me crazy since I'm the only one I know who isn't crazy oversisig). But, serve me this and I'll have this all for myself even before you pig ear fans could reach it! =p The savory pig ear cuts and goat's cheese laid on a perfectly crunchy, soft and moist sourdough bruschetta is so heavenly. And, you have 3 sauce options, pico de gallo and arugula to amplify the experience. Fellow food bloggers liked it with Saffrom Aoili Sauce. I, on the other hand, devoured it with the Mango Mayo.

Green Tea Chicharon (190 php)

Chicharonhas always been known as an irresistible Filipino guilty pleasure. Well, meet the Green Tea Chicharon which is the best chicharon I've ever had and I'm sure you'll munch it till the last bit. I swear I literally couldn't stop myself. It's was even crackling upon serving. Dip it into the honey vinegar and grabe sarap!

Starters

Grilled Unagi Salad (650 php)

The Grilled Unagi Salad is the tastiest salad I've ever come across. To me, it's like a deconstructed taco with crispy beet lavash, romaine lettuce, mango bits, grilled teriyaki unagiwith sesame dressing and sour cream.

Entree

Salmon and Uni Pasta (700 php)

The Salmon and Uni Pasta is another hit. It has a big chunk of sous vide Salmon fillet that's grilled with precision. And, the seashell pasta with uni and poached (64 degree) egg that's the perfect complement for having explosive umami-rich taste. As a bonus, they even added the crispy salmon skin which I enjoyed.

Moroccan Spiced Chicken Fillet (490 php)

The Moroccan Spiced Chicken Fillet is so fragrant and moist. I loved it! I loved it so much that I'd even prefer it over my fave type of meat: beef. It also comes with a delicious spanakopita (Greek spinach pie).

Porchetta (770 php)

The Porchetta is one of the best I've tried. The hearty combination of the crisp pork skin, yummy fats, moist pork meat and sumptous blend of herbs and spices won over our foodie hearts. It also comes with bacon jam, mashed potatoes, spinach and mushroom ragout.

Dessert

White Chocolate Cheese Cake (360 php)

The White Chocolate Cheese Cake is recommended for those who likes it sweet. It is a very dense and heavy dulce de leche cheesecake perhaps because it is made of goat's cheese. Everyone appreciated the candied lemon peel.

The Flourless Dark Chocolate Cake(360 php) is my kind of dessert. It is a praline mousse topped with whipped cream and served with creme angleise on the side.

There's no better place to get fat and enjoy fat than Fat Restaurant. Everything we tried is so good! Per order pricing is a bit expensive but portions are good for sharing.

A few months ago,we couldn't find the motivation to cook at home so we dined out for every meal. For dinner, we ate at Va Bene Pasta Deli.

We just chanced upon it on the 3rd floor of Bonifacio High Street Center.

The manager was very friendly. She told us that this is her second branch (the first one located at the 2nd floor of the Petron Gas Station Edsa corner Pasay Road.)

The dining area was quite limited and the place was a bit cramped up so you can all the crowd chatters. During the time we were there, it was always fully packed.

♥ Va Bene Salad (440 php)

The Va Bene Salad is a superb salad! We were very impressed with it and I think it's definitely one of the best salads out there. The scallops milense (with truffle mayonaise) were laid on top of crunchy apple slices is a brilliant idea. The arugula is very fresh and the lemon dressing is so good!

Pasta Lunga (Long Pasta)

♥ Linguine Pasta (440 php)

I have never seen a pasta dish that has an equal amount of topping as the pasta before. The Linguine Pasta is one such! The arribiata sauce with riccotta mousse has the right blend that makes it smooth and slightly creamy. At the same time, it was zesty and tangy.

♥ Organic Eggs Tagliatelle (440 php)

My family has always preferred red sauce over white sauce. But when they tried the Organic Eggs Tagliatelle, they were so delighted with it that they swiped this clean in a jiffy.

You can request for additional parmesan cheese like we did.

Dolci (Dessert)

♥ Strawberry A La Milena (280 php)

The Strawberry A La Milena lookssimple but it actually has a sophisticated character just like the rest of our orders. Mom and little sister was so giddy with this! The fresh slightly sour strawberries were bathed in sweet syrup with some balsamico and sprinkled with black pepper.

We were so happy with our dinner at Va Bene Pasta Deli. That we just had to recommend it to our relatives and friends. They all loved it too! I'm hoping to go back to try more of their dishes. I have strong feeling that they know exactly what they are doing so every order is impressive. The price is a bit upscale but as you can see, they are quite generous with their ingredients so we felt that we got more than we paid for.

There are only a few creperies in the Metro. So when I heard of La Creperie, I invited the family to try it.

La Creperie has many branches. The one in Salcedo Village is one of their newest establishment and it's near to us so it was the wisest option based on convenience.

It has a modern and luxurious vibe.

There are huge chandeliers that keeps emanates a romantic yellow glow over the place.

Kids loved to watch as their crepes were being prepared.

Les Soups

♥Soup of the Day(285 php)

The Soup of the Day is pumpkin soup with garlic bread. I've always loved pumpkin soup so we're fortunate that this was made available.

French Onion(295 php)

The French Oniontopped with loads ofgruyere cheeseis highly recommended.

Galettes de Sarrasin

Provencale (285 php)

Between crepes and galettes, I've always prefer the latter for being he healthier option so I ordered the Provencale. The Provencale is filled with spicy tuna, ratatouille (eggplant, zucchini, tomato, red peppers and garlic) and egg. The toppings were a great medley but I didn't like the dryness and flatness of the galettes itself. I can't help but miss my favorite Cafe Breton because of my disappointment.

Crevette (295 php)

The Crevette is one of the best crepes I have tried. It is filled with shrimp, crab roe (aligue) and spinach in bechamel sauce. This is a must try!

Hungarian (265 php)

The Hungarian from the sound and looks of it is a manly meal. It had Hungarian sausage, sauteed onions, mustard sauce, chopped tomato and green salad. For me this was too common but brother said it was okay for him.

Les Pates

Truffled Mushroom and Sausage(385 php)

My little sister enjoyed her Truffled Mushroom and Sausagepasta. I'd personally prefer if this had more truffle.

Angelina's(210 php)

Based on the review of Our Awesome Planet, theAngelina's is highly recommended so we ordered it. It is a Paris-style rich hot chocolate (60% cacao) served with large chocolate chips and whipped cream.

We all loved how thick, rich and creamy it was. But, I personally found it too sweet that made it difficult to finish.

One time I took my little sister for a tea date at Tamayaki in Addition Hills, we noticed that there was a Japanese restaurant in the second floor called 5th Taste Modern Japanese Cuisine.

We didn't see the interiors in the second floor. But, the menu on the front door at the entrance of Tamayaki gave us an idea that it was modern Japanese.

Food

Starters

♥ Deconstructed Miso Soup (98 php)

When theDeconstructed Miso Soup was served, I had the impression that the plating was of European or French influence. I was really impressed with the Deconstructed Miso Soup because it never imagined that a miso soup and meat floss would complement each other well.

Mussels Tempura (150 php)

I was expecting something interesting with the Mussels Tempura. Unfortunately, it failed to impress me as the batter was too thick that eve the sauce or the mussel was able to entice my appetite.

Sushi

Smoked Mackarel Maki (150 php)

I ate a few pieces of theSmoked Mackarel Maki. I was able to distinguish the spicy tinge in each piece but I had a hard time trying to taste the smoked mackarel.

Sandwiches

The Fifth Taste Cheesesteak (200 php)

The The Fifth Taste Cheesesteak deliciously cheesy. I liked that it had mozzerella aside from the cheese sauce. Unlike the other cheese steaks with hard and crunchy buns, this one is pillow soft that my fingers sinks in as I held it.

Omurice Curry

Crispy Chicken Curry (220 php)

I like the idea that they separately served the Crispy Chicken and the Curry Rice to assure the crispiness. TheCurry Riceis similar to the Fuwatoro Tenshin-Han of Osaka Ohshowhere high quality Japanese rice is wrapped in fluffy egg omelet and gooey cheese except tthat it comes with curry sauce. For the price, I find the quality remarkable. But, the crispy chicken could lose a bit batter coating so we it could bring out more of the chicken meat.

Pizza

♥ Kani Salad Pizza (225 php)

My favorite dish for the night is the Kani Salad Pizza. If had an extremely thin and crispy crust with heavy gooey cheese, kani, cucumber, carrots and Japanese Mayo. I comes with nori flakes and chili powder. I can't figure out how they managed to make the crust so thin and crispy without any sogginess or oiliness from the cheese.

Main Course

♥ Jalapeno Cream Cheese Onion Tonkatsu (325 php)

I'd give the Jalapeno Cream Cheese Onion Tonkatsu A+ for effort with the presentation. I also consider this dish as the tastiest among all our orders. It had a Jalapeno cream cheese sauce with caramelize onions inside the tonkatsu. It is served with Japanese coleslaw and Tonkatsu sauce. I prefer this without the Tonkatsu sauce because I found it contrasting the spicy Jalapeno Cream cheese.

5th Taste Modern Japanese Cuisine is surprisingly cheap for its concept. I find their pricing budget-friendly especially the pizza. For that reason, it would be a great hang out with some company if in the area. It offers great privacy and it has a parking area too. But, it's not something I'd seek out and travel for.

I don't know why but this past fews weeks, I feel less efficient as I'm always behind my schedule despite missing some family eat outs, movie nights and game nights. But above all the task mess, I accepted an invite from Dads World Buffet. Why?

Because two years ago, I tried the old Dads Ultimate Buffet and I was somehow unsatisfied and gave a few comments and suggestions as you can refer to it here. And yet, they invited me. That means they are very confident with their new Dad's World Buffet and I really respect confidence and openness a lot.

I didn't notice a big upgrade with the interiors and ambiance. But, the selections were a huge revamp. Even though I thought I was full from my previous meal, I felt so enticed that I wanted to try it all. So let's get on with the food.

Food
Just like the Dads Ultimate Buffet, Dads World Buffet allows a culinary cross-over from Saisaki and Kamayan.

Saisaki

Sushi Station

Saisakiboasts of having over 200 sushi variants. I can tell from the crunchy seaweed wrap that everything is made. I tried a lot as there were many options likeTaro Sushi, Tuna Sushi, Salmon, Sushi, Alligator Roll, Isikari Roll, Lipstick Trace RollandGolden Roll. There's even a Temaki. I really liked the ♥ Spicy Salmon Roll. I'm sure you'll find your own personal favorite too.

There are also marinated sashimi and side dishes like Seaweed Salad and Kimchi.

Sukiyaki Station

You can order an ♥ Udon Suki from the Sukiyaki Station. It has the freshest vegetables and quality meat. Those fresh shitake mushrooms are got me to try this and I'm so glad I did! And, there's still my favorite ♥ ChawanMushi too.

Katsu and Tempura Station

If there's something that doesn't need to change in Saisaki, it would be its Tempura Station. Since my childhood, I've always loved their ♥ Ebi Tempura. The Katsu Station is now three times as it was before. I really liked the ♥ Salmon Katsu and ♥ Menchi Katsu.

TheAgemono Stationselection has become more extravagant. There's Kani Bacon, ♥ Tori Kuwayaki and more.

Kamayan

My friends and I had a lot of plate filled with Kamayan's offering. They have all the Filipino favorites we can think of like ♥ Kare-Kare, ♥ Lechon de Leche, ♥ Crispy Pata, Sisig, ♥ Kuhol, Grilled Salmon Belly, ♥ Adobong Balut, Laing, Dinuguan and the hearty♥ Bulalo we all kept coming back for.

Dad's World Buffet

Dad's now has a Bread and Cheese Stations as well as a Cold Cuts Station with Mussel Kilpatrick, Ham Roulade, Beef Carpaccio, Pesto Tuna Bites andTomato Bruschetta.

I'm a salad person! Way to go Dad's the Salad Station is way way better than I remembered.

♥ Dads Ham and ♥ U.S. Roast Turkey

The Carving Station right at the center is definitely the highlight of Dads.

♥ New Zealand Leg of Lamb and♥ U.S. Roast Beef

All the meats I've tried at the Carving Station is succulent and tender. There's a lot of sauce and siding options too. I appreciate that they even have Cranberry Jelly and Mint Jelly.

Kebab Station

The ♥ Kebabsare really good! One of the best ones I've tried from a buffet.

Seafood Souvlaki

Grilled Seafood

They have live stations like the Grilled Seafood Station where you can request your choice of fishes to be freshly cooked for you.

There's a live Pasta Station. And, they are also prepared Italian dishes like Spaghetti and Lasagna. TheAmerican Station with ♥ Oysters Rockefeller, Buffalo Wings, ♥ Clam Chowder, Salisbury Steak, Beef with Mushroom Sauce, Texan Pork Ribs, Pork Spareribs w/ Honey, Cajun Chicken Lollipop, Turkey Tetrazinni is also a must stop. The Oysters Rockefeller, Buffalo Wings, Clam Chowder stood out among the rest for me.

Mexican Station

For Mexican, they had Tacos, Nachos, Chicken Quesadillas, Beef and Chicken Fajita. The Beef and Chicken Fajitawere a bit too saucy for me but it was pretty good.

Spanish Station

In addition to the ♥ Dads Paella, they now have Gambas, Turkey Croquetas,♥ Dads Callos, Chicken Relleno and Calamares. The Turkey Croquetas was my least favorite item for the night. It was mostly breading.

Chinese Station

I'm quite surprised that they now have an extensive Chinese Station. They have a Dimsum Stationwith Pork Siomai,Shark's Fin and Chicken Feet.

And, there are the usual Chinese fare too like the Beef with Brocolli, Sweet & Sour Pork, Chicken with Tausi & Chilli, Steamed Fish Fillet with Garlic & Ginger Soy Sauce, Mixed Vegetables in Oyster Sauceand Yang Chow Fried Rice. I can't help but wish they had some Chinese Cold Cuts too. But, I guess they focused more on popular favorites.

Hainanese Chicken

They have interesting Asian selections like India’s Red Curry, Singapore’s Hainanese Chicken (a bit tough and dry) and Cereal Prawns (similar to their Ebi Tempura with cereal bits), Thailand’s ♥ Chicken Pandan (love how they wrapped this in cute sizes), Malaysia’s♥ Lamb Curry (delicious in yellow curry)...

Greece’s Beef, Pork, Chicken

Indonesia’s ♥ Beef, Pork, and Chicken Sate (delicious especially with their peanut sauce) and Korea’s Galbi Chim.

Dessert Station

Leave space for dessert! I recommend the♥ Ube Flan Cake, ♥ Almond Lychee Jelly,♥ Buko Pandan Salad, ♥ Cream Puffs and ♥ Soft Served Ice Cream. Those who loveFilipino delicacies will be happy as they have Bibingka, Puto Bumbong, Sapin Sapin, ♥ Maja Mais, Palitaw and more. There's also a Halo-halo station, Chocolate fountain, Cookie Bar and an Ice Cream Station. Being an Ice Creamlover, I was thrilled that they had many flavors but I'd suggest that they go beyond the classic flavors of Strawberry, Chocolate and Vanilla.

I'm very impressed with Dads World Buffet. I'll definitely convince the family to try it here again once more. Kudos to Dads for being one of the buffet pioneers and yet continuing to improve as it listens to its loyal diners.

After a dinner in the Makati area, my little sister insisted that we should have some coffee. We googled for a coffee shop nearby and Communepopped up.

I've heard a lot of raves about Commune in the social media. I was expecting it to have an ambiance like the mainstream coffee and tea shops. But, it turned out to be quite simplistic. It intentionally had mix-matched chairs.

Some portions have high tables with high stools. I liked the interiors especially the dangling lights. However, the lack of sufficient air-conditioning made me uncomfortable.

The cupcakesdidn't seem to entice any of us so we didn't try any.

My little sister ordered the Cappuccino and requested to have a 3D latte art. We were happy with the latte art but the coffee was just average.

I don't understand what the hype over Commune is. Perhaps, we should try their food to appreciate? Or, this turns into something extraordinary during weekdays? I'll probably only revisit if I'm looking for a hang out place in the area as the price is pretty decent.

I've long been seeing Kebabers so when my friends and I were looking for a budget-friendly place in SM Manila, I suggested this.

It has a very bright counter compared to the usual fast food places. The signage and menu is well-lighted, big and really attention-catching.

It has limited selections but since it Persian Cuisine, they have something different to offer.

Upon paying for your order, they will give you a buzzer. Once it buzzer, you have to get your order at the kitchen window on the left end of the place. You will also have the option to choice between their two dips: Spicy and Regular Garlic Sauce.

The 2 pcs. Cheese Kebab Mealhas two small kebab nuggets filled with gooey melted cheddar cheese.

The Spicy and Regular Garlic Sauceis diluted but its refillable so I dare not complain.

Monster Beef Bowl Regular (109 php)

The Monster Beef Bowlis a bowlful of ground kebab meat with cucumbers, tomatoes and onions. It also comes with free iced tea. I think this is the most bang for the buck among all we ordered.

I don't know where else you can get Persian Cuisine for Less Than 100 Pesos so that makes Kebabers a major consideration in that alley. However, if you wouldn't mind stretching your budget, I don't think this is for you. The serving size is not for hefty eaters like me.

The family has been meaning to try it for quite some time now but most of their branches are always full. Good thing they opened their Greenfield District branch which is the least popular.

Like all its other branches, it has the same local and colorful vibe.

Of course, we ordered our familiar favorites and their well-known best-sellers. The Crispy Dinuguan is a semi-dry pork blood stew (similar to the Ilocano Dinardaraan) with deep-fried pork chunks. Highly recommend!

♥ Kare-Kare (376 php)

I'm very biased with kare-karedishes in general. But really, this renditionKare-Kare is among the best I've tried.

Rice

♥ Sinangag na Sinigang (235 php)

The Sinangag na Sinigang has it's own rich flavor. But, what's great about it is that it doesn't overpower the viands.

Dessert

Sticky Rice (156 php)

The Sticky Rice is an extravagant one. The family liked it but I'm more into simplicity with this dish I guess.

I have to confess, it's been quite some time since I discovered Uno Morato Coffee Shop. But some part of me did not want to reveal this awesome secret geek hideaway.

This is hidden behind the bigPersian Kebab and Icut Salon along the corner of E. Rodriguez and Tomas Morato. You have to enter the parking space to access this area.

The sign is pretty simple but quite informative of what to expect. The sign says Uno Morato but I found it to be Uno Morato Book Store or Uno Morato Coffee Shop online. This is also not to be confused with Uno Restaurant which is also in the Tomas Morato area.

It is a bookstore for many local authors. Filipinos have yet to be recognized in the field of literature. Being a writer is not a lucrative profession here so there aren't many book shops that are dedicated to Filipino books. I'm so glad Uno Morato is one of such rarity.

Books of different genres and for different age ranges can be found here.

There are also consigned items. And, fellow gaming geeks like me would be pleased to discover that it is also a board game cafe. This is where I first discovered about the awesome game called "Munchkin Cthulhu". Unfortunately, I went here alone with no one to play with. =(

You see Uno Morato is a lot of things. On some days, there are book or comic groups gathering here. Some days, you can find game geeks playing here I'm told every Tuesday is game day). Film showing, seminars and concerts are also held there.

On the counter are cookies...

and other consigned goodies. There are also some chips and local delicacies for to make your stay worthwhile. They also serve cheap beer.

♥ Sweet and Spicy Tuyo Rice Meal(120 php)

Whenever I read a book or study, I usually become hungry easily so I'm quite glad that Uno Morato have very affordable meals. The Sweet-Spicy Tuyo Rice Meal is so healthy and fulfilling. They serve it with salted egg, brown rice and tomatoes.

I was told by their staff that their food is consigned too. They have a supplier somewhere far south. I'm glad they did a pretty good job in selecting their suppliers.

Cheese Panini (65 php)

Okay, just so we're clear, I stayed here for quite some time so I had nothing to do but to eat. lol! So I also tried the Cheese Panini. This is so good as it is served hot, crunchy on the outside and oozing with melted cheese.

♥ Banana Walnut Cake (150 php)

For dessert, I had the Banana Walnut Cake. I loved this because it wasn't too sweet. I enjoyed it even to the last buttercream icing.

Chocolate Cake (150 php)

The Chocolate Cake is a sweeter option.

After trying out Breakout, all my cousins, siblings and I were so hungry. The puzzles were fun and challenging so it drained us mentally and physically. Since we're all from the South, the Kapitolyo area was out of our bounds for family get togethers, so everyone was excited! My cousin suggested that we try his friend's restaurant called Takashi in Pioneer Center.

With no time to argue, we all agreed. We convoyed to the establishment. The Pioneer Center has a big parking space and it's free too! My cousin's friend was there to welcome us. The chef Takashi was also introduced to us so we all had high hopes for a wonderful authentic Japanese meal.

I think the place can house around 30 persons. Our group of 18 had to be divided into two long tables.

My cousin ordered the appetizers and mains which we shared. Then, we all had our own Ramen bowl.

Appetizers (Maki Rolls)

Crazy Maki Sushi (160 php)

The family is a big fan of maki. We ordered the Crazy Maki Sushi which was visually appealing. It is calfironia topping topped with kani salad-crabstick with Japanese mayonnaise and roe.

Devil's Roll (240 php)

The Devil's Roll is more to my liking. It had breaded shrimp, lettuce, salmon, Japanese mayonnaise and spicy red sauce.

♥ Salmon Teriyaki Maki Sushi (240 php)

The Salmon Teriyaki Maki Sushi is my favorite among the appetizers.

Salmon Sashimi (250 php)

The Salmon Sashimi was just okay. You can already judge it by the way it looks so no need for elaboration.

Spicy Salmon Sashimi (220 php)

The Spicy Salmon Sashimi is cheaper than the Salmon Sashimi. Perhaps, since it is chopped, it is less in serving size. I did not find it to be spicy so this was dull for me.

Mains

♥ Ebi Tempura 5 pcs. (280 php)

The Ebi Tempura is well-executed. My little sister was delighted with this.

Donburi

Oyakodon (190 php)

The Oyakodon seems to be over seasoned -sweet and salty for our taste.

Ramen

Tonkotsu Shoyu (280 php)

The Tonkotsu Shoyu failed to reach my standard. Something just seemed off. I just couldn't pinpoint what it was lacking. I didn't like their noodles too.

♥Hokkaido Miso Ramen (280 php)

The Hokkaido Miso Ramen is their best ramen based on all our feedback. They got it right with this one.

Spicy Karaage Ramen (280 php)

The Spicy Karaage Ramen was better than the Tonkotsu Shoyu but I wouldn't pick this as long as the Hokkaido Miso Ramen is available. The Spicy Karaage is great for spicy lovers like me. But, I found this difficult to finish.

Takashi's ramen is affordable If craving for ramen in the area, I would definitely choose this over Ramen Cool. I'll only order the Hokkaido Miso Ramen again. You can't go wrong with ordering the makis for sharing too.

This is my second time to travel all the way south to BF Homes Parañaque. I've long heard of its being the Korean Food Capital in the Metro (aside from my home town Malate that is). My long journey has led me to discover Mattna Kamjatang (맛나 감자탕). This is a famous restaurant in Busan Korea.

It's a big place with a glass windows. It even has a big parking space. BUT! Finding it is a bit of a challenge. It can't be found in google maps or waze. I've asked many residents, tricycle drivers etc. in the area and they have never heard of Mattna Kamjatang. And, the reason why is their signage...
See that small wooden sign inside the window? It's not visually noticeable during broad daylight and I'd bet more so at night. It also has an intimidating big wooden door.

After pushing my way in, I was astounded by how big it is. There were a lot of servers who welcomed me and I was quickly ushered to a table.

Table has their customized utensil and napkin holder as well as the menu.

♥ Complimentary Ban Chan

For Complimentary Ban Chan, they served Baechu Kimchi(spicy fermented cabbage),Danmuji (spicy radish), Ganja Jorim (glazed baby potato) and Dububuchim (spicy pan-fried tofu). This is one the best banchan set I've ever had. Everything is so good I didn't want to leave anything behind.

This is already on the table so I couldn't help but be intrigued what the Kamjatang is all about. While waiting for my order, I googled the Kamjatang and found out that it is a potato stew.

♥ Kam Ja Tang Pyo He Jang Kuk (320 php)

I was expecting potato stew but the Kam Ja Tang turned out to be be more than that.

♥ Kam Ja Tang Pyo He Jang Kuk (320 php)

The Kam Ja Tang has a big chunk of pork neck, perilla leaves, bean sprouts, potato slices and glass noodle. It's appetizingly spicy but not overpowering the other ingredients. I loved it! This is one of the best Tang or Korean Stew I've ever had. I find it to be heart-warming and soulful. This is perfect for the rainy weather.

♥ Bukum Bap (150 php)

The Bukum Bap is not like thekorean fried rice dishes that I have encountered in the past.

The staff will cook this infront of you. And, they will use the broth of the Kam Ja Tang and mix it with what's already served on the pot. This is so good! One of the best I've had too!

Andy's Delight (10 php/piece)

The Andy's Delight is a pastry with nuts and buttermilk. I brought this home for the family and they enjoyed it.

Mattna Kamjatang (맛나 감자탕) is one of the best authentic Korean restaurants I've tried. They definitely have the best stews! I highly recommend this. The staffs are so nice too.

I know this sounds cliche. But really, my apprenticeship is one of the most transformative phase in my life. I have never imagined a workplace filled with kind-hearted, hard-working and jolly bunch.
Engaging in public service also made me realize how fortunate I was in life. The apprenticeship program experience alone was a big blessing for me. Yet, it got even better when I was nvited to join their summer getaway. One of my mentor is a local of Lipa City Batangas so he brought us to his favorite food place called Liam's Lomi House. Liam's has won several awards for their lomi.

It has a sign but the road side. But, you have to go in further inside the street to reach the actual establishment.

It was a simple but already modern structure with many seating capacity. There's a lot of parking spaces too.

For such a conspicuous and humble place, I honestly didn't expect it to be full. It was not even meal hours when we dropped by as we came at around 3 pm. They adopted a pay as you order system so you have to order by the counter. The place had a high ceiling so despite lacking air-conditioning, it was cool enough for me.

There was also a barbecue stall outside with its own signage "Liam's Special BBQ" but I didn't get to try it. Because we were already about to leave when they started making preparations.

I loved the idea that we have to eat on a banana leaf because it felt more native.

Food
My mentors are so kind to treat me and my apprentice-mates. They also knew I do some food blogging so they didn't touch the food until I got a shot. Aren't they the most awesome mentors ever?

Noodles

♥ Lomi Special (50 php)

As the name implied, their best-seller is their lomi. I was so thrilled when our Lomi Special arrived. It was a big bowl filled with lots of topping like pork meat, pork liver, fish ball and kikiam. Of course, it was very flavorful and the thick noodles has a nice firm, soft and slightly chewy texture too.

Soup

♥ Chopsuey (110 php)

I'm a veggie lover so I was happy to hear that they ordered the Chopsuey. Their version is unconventional. It is essential the traditional chopsuey vegetable ingredients with a more soupy-base and loaded with special toppings that were similar to the Lomi Special (i.e. pork meat, pork liver, fish ball and kikiam). I don't usually appreciate the chopsuey. But, this one I loved!

Short Orders (Good for 3)

♥ Fried Chicken (130 php)

The Fried Chicken has a different cooking technique to it that makes it distinguishes it from the usual American or Filipino-style. It was well-marinated and coated in crispy starch similar to the Taiwanese chicken chops. This is definitely worth a try!

Sisig (130 php)

Last, but certainly not the least, is the Sisig. While I prefer the sisig without the mayonnaise, I found this one quite enticing.

For a hearty meal with any group,Liam's Lomi House is a great stop! The best part is, is that a meal will cost you less than 100 pesos. This is one food discovery that I am very grateful for. And, the experience and the company made it even more unforgettable.

One random Saturday night, the family went to Kapitolyo in search for a new restaurant to try. The unique logo of Red Panda Bistro caught our attention. It was very classy and creative at the same time. It was a sleeping panda and a wine glass in one.

It had a few parking spaces.

We were so happy with the ambiance. It was so casual but so chiq.

It has a big and clear glass window so you can see almost all parts of its kitchen.

There's a delicatessen by the far end before the stairs leading to the second floor We loved the stylish lofts so we decided to seat here.

There's also a chiller and a freezer by the deli.

The menu offers two parts:European Cuisine and Chinese Cuisine.

♥ Pumpkin and Apple Soup Sharing (495 php)

The Pumpkin and Apple Soup gave us such a nice first impression. The moment we sipped into this wonderful concoction, we all knew we chose the right establishment to dine that night.

The Crispy Chicken Mango Salad is a refreshing salad with bread chicken strips, romaine lettuce, diced ripe mangoes, grape slices and mango dressing.

I love ravioli so I have encountered more than a handful. Yet, I have never seen one so colorful and articulate as the Truffled Roasted Duck Stuffed Ravioli.

The Anchovies Fried Rice is not as spectacular as the rest but it goes well with the other viands we had.

Tricolored Buchi (85 php)

The Tricolored Buchi is buchi filled with dark chocolate. Had I been new to the concept, I would have been intrigued. But, after trying the ones from Kabila, Wee Nam Kee and Chow Fun, I was not impressed as the flavored food coloring was a contrast to the chocolate fillings.

Pastries

I forgot what this Cinnamon bun was called. It was from the deli and pre-heated before serving. It was just okay.

Beverages

♥ Red Panda Iced Tea (160 php)

We ordered the Red Panda Iced Tea just because we were enticed by the glass. It was delicious.

Basil Ice Cream

The deli also serves Jack Frost Premium Ice Cream. Finally, the family got to try their Basil Ice Cream and they loved it as much as I did.

The family has set out to try hotel buffets since forever. Yet, I have never come across Holiday Inn's Flavors Restaurant.

Naturally, as a foodie, I was enthusiastic in adding it to my growing collection.

I love the interiors. It was modern and sophisticated. Apart from the main dining area, it also had booths on the side and a private room.

Food
The food stations are placed at the far end. It's quite apparent that they have limited selections.

Bread Station

The Bread Station has enough bread variants with spreads tochoose from. I had a slice of sourdough. It was pretty good.

Cold Cuts

For Cold Cuts, they have three kinds if ham. The hams are displayed on the right end.

But, you have to request them to be cut by the Grill Station on the opposite side (far left). This didn't make sense to me.

Salad Bar

They have a make your own salad option. And, around four prepared salads. What I like about this station is theMiddle Eastern Dips: Hummus and Baba Ghanouj which I paired with my slice of sourdough.

Sushi Bar

The Sushi Bar has around 3-5 kinds of sushi. Despite the appearance, they seem to have the toppings of a classic California Maki: mango, crab stick and cucumber. I decided to try one. And, it was okay. The nori had thecrunch of a freshly made sushi.

Flavors offered two soup options: Minestrone andMinced Beef. The Minestrone was delicious as they added fresh thyme in it.

Noodle Station

The Noodle Station had many noodles and toppings to offer.

Unfortunately, I decided to skip this to save room for dessert.

Excluding the Staples (Plain Rice, Nasi Goreng and Pancit Canton) and Sides (Roasted Mix Vegetable, Baked Potato Wedges andCauliflower Gratin), there are only a few main dishes to choose from.

Tsinoy Foodies Verdict
I don't feel that Flavors Restaurant has lived up to its name. The dishes where not flavorful enough for me nor does it offer enough variants to allow guests to appreciate different flavors. The steaks were okay but the price you have to pay for it isn't reasonable. I don't think I'll revisit unless it's discounted or it's a complimentary meal for a hotel stay.

Whenever we see a J.CO Donuts and Coffee in the area without any lines, we always take it as an opportunity to buy and bring some home for the family's breakfast or merienda.

Sometimes, I also buy just for short breaks on the go.

Dazzling Queen (42 php)

Recently, I discovered a new found favorite with the Dazzling Queen. It's has a nice tropical twist as has dried coconut flakes on top of the creamy strawberry chocolate. The dried coconut flakes adds to the crunchiness and neutralizes the sweetness of the strawberry chocolate.

It even has a pleasant surprise of berry-coconut cream inside that's very light and refreshing.

So one time, I've added Dazzling Queen to the classic family favorite Mr. Green Tea and Alcapone for the family to try. They liked it too!

J. Coffee

As the eldest sister, I usually go out on a date with one of my sisters on random basis just to have some sisterly bonding time. For my coffee-loving (or should I say addict) little sister, we usually hang out at cafes and coffee shops. Lately, we tried J. CO's Coconut Mocha Frappe and Avocado Cappuccino. The Coconut Mocha Frappe is a sweet blend of the usual mocha (chocolate and J Coffee) but with tender coconut jelliesand iced coconut.

We also noticed other interesting new drinks like Cafe Avocado, Tiramisu Frappe and White Chocolate Espresso Frappe. Which do you think we should try next?

It's been a long time since I last visited Mafbexwith the family. Mafbex 2015this year is from July 22-26, 2015. We figured we should drop by on the first day so we can take advantage of the availability of the items.

As usual, we were on a search for something interesting.

One of our favorite discoveries is Bio-Traders Corporation Dew's Diamond organic products. The old owner and her granddaughter have been innovating products that have gained distinctions and awards abroad. We can't help and be amazed by their products and buy them. Aren'tcocktail cucumbers, prumed cucumber, cucumber salsa, cucumber sauce, cocoa tables with only 3% butter fat and sugared cocoa nibsawesome? The owners were really nice. They even invited us to their show city garden farm and offered to teach us some planting basics. We hope to drop by sometime.

Too bad Liberty had ran out of the Big Black Angus Burger which we wanted to try. So we just decided to buy their Big Black Burger Buns =p. They also have cute buns like the Buffy Buns (matcha) and Chocolate Monster Buns.

For the nth time mom bought Ashitaba plants. She's been failing to make them survive. We were told that it should have little water and sunlight only until 9 am. After year, it should grow bigger like their display and have flowers. The flowers should sprout seeds for us to plant like the seeds they have for sale. We learned that it is a relative of celery so we could juice it like their free taste sample. We tried it and err... it's tastes healthy and grassy.

We were also tempted to buy some Hershey's Cookies 3 for 100 php.

It was also a great opportunity for us to buy some kitchen supplies like mixing bowls and pot holders.

I've long been seeing Kamuning Bakery posted by several bloggers. It's just too far away from home so when we saw it there, we bought some Mini Pineapple Pie (180 php) and Mini Apple Pie (180 php).

We also couldn't help but buy from Ilustrado since pastries are sold at 50% off. We bought some Chicken Empanadas for half the price of 65 php.

It was a random Saturday when I invited little sister for a late lunch at the newCafe Sanso.

We were hoping to check out Museo Sanso right next to it. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovation.

It has a beautiful al fresco area. My lil sis and I can't help but imagine how romantic and magical this set up can be at night.

Walking in, we first noticed the counter with a chiller.

Deli

They have a selection of meat cuts and cheeses available for sale.

We easily found ourselves eased in as we found our choice of seating.

We love the artistic play of colors and the minimalist and clean vibe that exudes coziness.

You can check the art of famous artist Sanso and other artists while waiting for your orders.

Food

Complimentary Bread

Quick to be served on our table is the warm Complimentary Bread. This warm good enough to keep us company while waiting for the rest of the orders. It took some time for the rest of the dishes to be served and they were served one at a time. But, we didn't mind given the ambiance and it was expected since they are still on their soft opening.

Sopa

Sopa de Ajo (140 php)

I' so glad they have my favorite Spanish soup. The Sopa de Ajo is creamier than others I've tried but still as rich in garlic taste. We may be biased for loving it. But, we really do love it!

Ensalada

Jamon Serrano, Melon and Mango Salad (295 php)

The Jamon Serrano, Melon and Mango Salad was so beautiful we couldn't help but be giddy happy as it was served. All the toppings are so perfect together. However, we felt that the citrus herbed vinaigrette is too much so it was overpowering the taste of the ingredients.

Sandwiches

Grilled Chicken and Vegetable Tortilla (290 php)

Just by looking at the melted manchego cheese of the Grilled Chicken and Vegetable Tortilla, we were already drooling. The cheese with the cajun style chicken bits and balsamic marinated vegetables.is just so wholesome. The candied walnut salad completes it nutritionally too.

Postre

Leche Frita (240 php)

It was our first time to try the classic Spanish dessert Leche Frita.

The Leche Frita was a breaded dessert with a firm, sweet and smooth milk pudding inside. If you're into deep-fried desserts, this is for you.

Signature Beverages

Mint Citrusade (140 php) and Agua Fresca (130 php)

The Mint Citrusade is too sweet for us. We highly recommend the Agua Fresca. It's so refreshing and cleansing.

Although newly opened, Cafe Sanso has already flocks of customers seeking its quality drinks and food. And, I can understand why. It serves quality dishes with top-notch ingredients. The staff is very friendly so you feel so welcomed. Our experience was superb! I'd definitely drop by again if in the area. I hope their coffee is available by then as lil sis was quite disappointed when we found out that they don't have it yet.

Aristocrat Restaurantis our family favorite Filipino restaurant. Even before we were born, our parents dated in Aristocrat.

Whenever we don't have any home-cooked dishes at home, we would take out (before they delivered) or call for delivery.

Whenever we have to eat at an unconventional hour, we would go to Aristocrat.

Whenever family and friends from another country come to visit, we bring them to Aristocrat.

After we go to mass every Sunday, Christmas and Simbang Gabi, we go to Aristocrat.

Aristocrat Flying Saucer Adobo (100 php)

For those who missed being born in the 80's when flying saucer sandwiches was the biggest food trend, you can try the Aristocrat Flying Saucer Adobo at Aristocrat.

Pospas De Gallina (120 php)

The Pospas De Gallina is literally the chicken soup for the soul! A tasty chicken and chicken broth will surely replenish your depleted energy at any time of the day.

♥ Arroz Con Caldo (120 php)

For the cold and rainy days, the Arroz Caldo is my recommendation. It is chicken and rice bathing in rich beef broth.

Tokwa't Baboy (145 php)

Who doesn't love the classic Tokwa't Baboy? This is a great addition to your merienda and great for sharing too.

Lumpiang Ubod Sariwa (90 php)

If you have healthy or vegetarian friends, you can easily lure them to accompany you to Aristocrat with their delicious Lumpiang Ubod Sariwa.

♥ Dinuguan with Puto and Cheese Roll (150 php + 60 php + 30 php)

I have never met anyone who resist the super duo of Dinuguanand Puto. If you love the classic duo, I dare you to try Aristocrat's Cheese Roll with their Dinuguan. Promise! You'll feel like you've miss half of your life for this late discovery .

A few weeks ago, I was invited to try Xilaimen Seafood Restaurant, a newly opened restaurant in Robinson's Magnolia with fellow bloggers. Believe it or not, this is my first time to be invited at a Chinese restaurant so I'm quite ecstatic.

Since I was in the area, I took the chance to try their dishes as well as reconnect with other bloggers.

Stepping in, gave me the familiar Chinese restaurant feel.

There's an open kitchen where you can see roasts hanged.

There are also aquariums to showcase the live seafoods available.

As live seafoods are seasonal in price, they have a price list where you can see how much per 100 gram.

Roast & Soy Specialties

Cold Cuts Combination: Seaweeds with Century Egg, Soy Tofu, Pork and Lechon Macau (370 php)

We occupied a large table where dishes were served lauriat style. The Cold Cuts Combination had Seaweeds with Century Egg, Soy Tofu, Pork Cuts and Lechon Macau. Aside from the
Seaweeds with Century Egg and Pork Cuts, the other items are not the typical ones I'd expect from a cold cut platter. They were pretty good. But, if I were in the company of my family and old relatives, I think its best to ask first what are available and maybe w can substitute some for healthier options.

The Mixed Seafood with Polonchay Soup is very good. An order is already good for sharing.

Prawns and Shrimps

♥ Pan Fried Prawns with Salted Egg (390 php)

The Pan Fried Prawns with Salted Egg is my favorite! Actually most of the dishes with egg or salted egg yolk is my favorite! This was perfectly crispy that no tinee-winee bit was spared from me. I noticed all the bloggers I was with removed the prawn shells though. I wonder why...
