Once upon a time there was a very popular authentic
Japaneseramen place along Gil Puyat Roxas Boulevard in
Pasay City called
Akira Restaurant.
Everytime we would pass by (I used to live in the area), we can't help but notice how crowded it was. In every visit, we would always be in the waiting line. Then one day, it closed down. Like many of its loyal customers, we thought it closed down for good. Only recently did we realize that it only it moved its current location to Antipolo St. corner Gil Puyat Roxas Boulevard. It's sign was mostly faded making it difficult to distinguish.
We were told that they closed down 1 month to construct their new place. It was noticeably huge! It had a big open kitchen. It has a sushi bar. It had a wide dining area and more than 10 spacious private functions.
I'm guessing their big expansion was brought about by their success in their old location. Sadly, as the staff shared, they lost most of their former clients during their relocation so the place is not utilized to its fullest extent.

Negi Miso Ramen (280 php) |
The
Negi Miso Ramen is a rich bowl of miso ramen topped with leeks, onion rings, bean sprouts and cabbage. This is not the typical miso ramen as it was bold in flavor.

The
Seafood Ramen is filled with generous serving of mussels, clams, shrimp, crab sticks, green peas, cabbage, onion rings and seaweeds. The broth delivered the abundant flavors of the sea.

Ebi Chili Ramen (290 php) |
The
Ebi Chili Ramen is my personal favorite! It had a thick sweet and spicy broth with generous portions of prawns, carrot strips, onions rings and a slice of egg (which was overcooked). This is the first time I've tried a ramen like this and I loved it!

Gomoku Ramen (290 php) |
Gomoku literally means "five types" so the
Gomoku Ramen has five main ingredients which I really can't make of since it has so many toppings really. Despite its affluent taste, we all found this to be soothing to the taste buds. Everyone voted for this as the best among their ramen selection. The only let down is the egg which could have been more runny.Tsinoy Foodies VerdictAkira Restaurant is a good choice for authentic yet affordable Japanese cuisine. I've tried a lot of
ramen but none is like those that they offer.
Although the ramen noodles may not be special, their X factor is definitely their broth and bountiful ingredients. I sincerely hope they regain their fame back because they deserve it.
